The challenge of achieving Nigeria’s strategic plan for national development (NDP) to a large extent depends on the quality of graduates from her higher education institutions (HEIs) which in turn is anchored on the quality assurance (QA) put in place in the institutions. This paper examined the impact of quality planning (QP), quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) on the output from our HEIs.
The paper also looked at some major quality control measures including recruitment and admission, teaching and learning, assessment, external examination, accreditation, monitoring and evaluation. Research and development challenges in Nigeria education were also handled. The study proposed a roadmap for revitalizing our higher education for national development with accompanying with specific recommendations that will ensure that higher education will churn out world class institutions, quality graduates, lead-edge research, technology transfer, dynamic knowledge and solve societal problems.
This paper agrees that regulatory bodies are essential components of QC in the education industry; QC when assiduously applied promotes higher education, research and national development. Finally, if all the QC measures are put in place, Education and research outcomes could lead to Entrepreneur Universities, Centres of excellence (COEs) and National development (ND).
