Plateau State University which is broad based and conventional came into being through an instrumentality of Law on Monday 7th March, 2005. On April, 29th 2005, the National Universities Commission (NUC), Abuja granted it official recognition.
Its focus is to develop a very simple, functional but elegant institution that can stand the test of time.
The University has as its philosophy the upholding and practice of the tenets of handing down knowledge, diligence, culture and values to enable the citizenry develop through an all round, practical, result oriented and problem solving education in a competitive globalised world.
The University is also conceived as an institution of higher learning in which staff and students from different backgrounds and with Sterling intellectual, managerial and moral capacities would harness to work together as a team for the realization of a modern secular education blended with high moral standards.
The location of the University as described above is impressive but the major problem is that it is undeveloped with grossly inadequate infrastructure for academic activities.
There are only two (2) major structures on the campus, the main building which serves the administration and academic departments including classrooms and laboratories. The second is the hostel with a capacity of only 700 students. In addition there is a small office and a chapel.
These are grossly inadequate particularly that we are now in the 3rd session. The vision of Management therefore is to see that the following structures are built within the next couple of years. These are; the School of Management Sciences, The Lecture Theatre and Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies.
Management is also vigourously pursuing the construction of the largest school - that of Arts and Social Sciences.
