IBB University Inaugurates Committee on Medical Sciences Takeoff

The Vice chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) University, Professor Abu Kasimu Adamu, has inaugurated implementation committee to work out necessary modalities for the commencement of the College of Health Sciences in the 2020/2021 academic session.

The vice chancellor while speaking at an event recently, reaffirmed the management’s preparedness to accord the committee every required support and cooperation that would enable it to succeed on the assignment.

He urged members of the committee to work hard toward bringing their wealth of experiences to bear in ensuring that the college commences on a sound footing.

Professor Adamu disclosed that by the time the college finally takes off in the next academic session, it would help in widening admission opportunities for students of Niger State origin who are qualified to study medicine and other related health science courses but were denied by other universities in the country.

He, however, expressed optimism that the inputs expected from members of the committee would make IBB University’s College of Health Sciences meet the basics required by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) and National Universities Commission (NUC) so that it would be a centre of reference to its peers in the country.

In his inaugural speech, the chairman of the committee, Professor Abubakar Alhaji Aliyu, who is from Ahmadu Bello University’s Teaching Hospital, assured the management of their readiness to work assiduously in order to actualise the noble objectives of the university for medical programme.

He also expressed appreciation to the management for giving members of the committee the opportunity to serve the state in that capacity, reaffirming their resolve to justify the confidence reposed in them by ensuring that IBB University’s College of Health Sciences is second to none in the country.

Professor Aliyu appealed for support of the state government and the relevant stakeholders of the university to support the noble course of the management by providing necessary funds required for the commencement of the college.

The academic secretary, Mrs Amina Yunusa Ndayako, is to serve as the secretary of the committee, assisted by Mallam Suleiman Nma Mohammed of the registry department.
