A nice warm welcome to the grounds of the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVC/AVCNU). Welcome to our reconfigured and rebranded site. We invite you to surf the site and feed us back on your experience, thereby making the site truly interactive. Who knows, you may feel impressed and compelled to check out the DONATIONS icon and see if you want to contribute to the development of higher education in Nigeria. You can support our scholarship initiative, support any of our innovation-promoting programmes, or choose to support projects and creative initiatives in your alma mater or any of our universities. This you can easily do at the site, and we shall acknowledge your contribution.
From our publications and newsletters, we hope to fill your day and curiosity with information that will enhance your understanding of the role universities play in development, and what Nigerian universities are doing in this regard in partnership with their numerous international friends and collaborators. Of course, Sports is not left out, as the saying goes, “all work and no play makes Chinedu a dull boy and Amina a dull girl. Actually, we regard sports in our universities much more than that; University Sports has multi-dimensional profits to the individual, the institution and to society at large. For us, University Sports is a key element in the national and global sports development value chain. So to us sports deserve all the support we can give, and this site reflects that commitment.
The tripartite functions of universities encompass production of needed competent and skilled manpower to plot and drive economic development; research and development to provide the ingredient for the first function above as well as the third function of community engagement, service to humanity and hence impact and relevance to global developmental needs. We try to cover this mandate in this site, from news of scientific and innovation breakthrough, progress in universities community engagement and statutory news and developments, to gist that will benefit other academic entities and the larger public. However, as mentioned earlier, we do not depend solely on our internal quality assurance mechanism to evaluate what we put on the web and the impact, we elicit your opinion and reaction, and indeed contributions to contemporary issues that will inspire us all and make our world, our planet a better place. Again, welcome to the CVC/AVCNU. We serve the Nigerian university system and provide a dedicated window to the wider world.
