CVCNU PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO TETFund

The Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU) on Thursday 5, May 2022 were warmly received at the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) by the Executive Secretary, Arch Sunday Echono and some members of management of the Commission.

This delegation which was led by the Chairman CVCNU, Prof. Samuel Gowon Edoumiekumo expressed his appreciation for the privilege given and facilitated with Arch. Echono on his appointment as the Executive Secretary of the Fund. Prof. Gowon noted that bearing his wealth of knowledge and experience in Administration, there is no doubt that it will be brought to bare as he steers the wheel of the Fund.

He also expressed confidence that Arc. Echono will continue with the trajectories of his predecessors and introduce new vistas that will add value to higher education provisions in the country.
In his speech, he mentioned that the CVCNU is working closely with the Fund to deploy the thesis digitalization for Nigerian Tertiary Institutions. This is in addition to deploying our home-grown Plagiarism Detection Software called EagleScan. The application is a best-in-class solution that will enable all final year, post-graduate students and research fellows undertake a Plagiarism check before final submission of long essays/ thesis, this software was developed by a team of software engineers from six public and private universities in Nigeria.

Prof. Edoumiekumo also called for a review of the funding support beneficiary institutions to access tier one journals and repositories to improve the research capabilities of our staff and students and also help build the capacity of academic staffs for generating content, especially Video and 3-Dimentional images, to support teaching and learning, and to request increased support for the staff of university IT Department to acquire professional certifications in current IT platforms such as could computing, front end development and data visualization.

Finally, the Chairman solicited support from the TETFund for its forthcoming 60th Diamond Jubilee Celebration which is themed “Celebrating 60 Years of Leadership in Nigerian Universities”.

The Executive Secretary, Arch. Echono assured the CVCNU of the Fund’s commitment to sustain the ongoing reforms in the sector, with emphasis on the content of its interventions specifically in the areas of research, ICT and other areas that encourages a reading culture in our society through the publication of books.

“In ensuring compliance to quality thesis and research work, the TETFund has adopted a policy that all proposals coming to the Fund must go through the Eaglescan Plagiarism Checker and receive certification that it has passed the minimum standard required for authors and publishers before they can benefit from the Funds support”.

On the issue of support, Arch. Echono was pleased to mention that His Excellency Mr President has approved the 2022 disbursement proposals and guidelines and the meeting for all beneficiary institutions will be held by Monday next week to interact further and briefly, including some of the proposed reforms that have been approved for implementation.
